Many workplaces require employees to wear identification or security badges throughout the workday. Most badge holders are generic plastic sleeves that hang around the neck. Sewing your own badge holder can be a great way to personalize your identification badge and show off your crafting skills to coworkers. For this project, you can either encase your existing badge sleeve or sew a plastic window into your own badge holder.

Measure your identification badge or badge sleeve. Most identification badges are 3.5 inches by 2.25 inches, however some companies have custom badge sizes. Add 1/2 inch to your measurements for 1/4 inch of a seam allowance and 1/4 inch of ease.

Cut the back of the badge holder. This piece will be 4 inches wide by 2 3/4 inches tall. Cut strips for the front of the badge holder. You will need to cut four strips that are 4-by-3/4 inches and four strips that are 2 3/4-by-3/4 inches.

Sew the strips for the front together. Place the right sides of the fabric together on two equally sized strips. Sew a seam down each of the long sides with 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat for all of the other strips. Turn the strips right side out and press.

Lay the strips out in a rectangular frame, as if to frame the identification card. Sew the strips together at each overlapping area. Press. If you are inserting the plastic, cut the plastic to 3 3/4-by-2 1/2 inches and sew to the wrong side of the frame.

Press 1/4-inch seam allowance at the top edge of the backing fabric and the top edge of the frame. Sew a hem close to the raw edges on each piece.

Place the right side of the backing fabric against the right side of the frame and pin. Sew along the three sides without hems, using 1/4-inch seam allowance. Cut a small strip of fabric that is 1/2-by-1 inch. Sew, using 1/8-inch seam allowance. Turn right side out and press. Fold the strip in half and sew both sides to the pouch as a loop to hang your pouch from. Turn the pouch right side out. Press, taking care to avoid melting the plastic insert.
