How to Make Homemade Cement

By RussellL
Cements are used to hold bricks together.

A cement is any substance that, when applied to a separate material, hardens and, in the process, bonds to that material. Cements are usually applied to one material, and another material is pressed to the cement before it dries. The cement dries and bonds the two materials together.

Gum Arabic Cement

Mix the gum arabic completely with the glycerin in the center of the wax paper. The wax paper will not bond to the gum arabic, so this will keep your glue wet and usable. The glue is thick enough and of less quantity, so it will not spread off the wax paper.

Mix the mixture from Step 1 with one-half teaspoon of water to loosen it up and make it more spreadable. Pour the water into the mixture, slowly, while stirring to keep the mixture uniform.

Place the wax paper with glue on it into the airtight container. The airtight container prevents all the moisture in the glue from evaporating. You can find cheap, airtight containers at any restaurant. They keep these containers for customers to take home liquids home.

The cement will stay wet for about one year, if you leave it in the airtight container.
