Making cushion covers yourself is much more economical than having them done professionally or purchasing new cushions. It’s fairly easy to do and can become a great hobby for anyone who enjoys home decorating.
Measure the cushion you want to cover, using the measuring tape. Remember to get all the dimensions of the cushion so you are able to calculate the cushion’s overall area that will be covered. Record this information as well as the area once you have figured it out.
Select and purchase your fabric. Using a fabric of at least medium weight is preferable, although fabrics can be as heavy as you desire, as long as you are comfortable working with them. Investing in more fabric than you think you need while at the fabric store might save you a trip later on. Everyone makes mistakes, and you can always use the leftover fabric for another purpose.
Pin the fabric you have selected to the cushion.
Cut off the excess fabric.
Sew the cushion cover around the edges, right where it has been pinned to the cushion. Leave an area on one edge where a zipper can be sewn in, if you plan to make a removable cushion cover.
