Dressing up as a cupcake is a fun idea when you are looking for an unusual costume for Halloween or another costume party. An advantage to a cupcake costume is that you can also make it yourself with items you can easily find in your own home or in a craft store. Put yourself in the running to win a costume contest with your cupcake costume.

Cut the bottom out of your round laundry basket. The basket will fit around your body, so cut strips of fabric and tie them onto the front and back of the basket to serve as suspenders.

Cut your poster board to a width that will cover the laundry basket. Fold it accordion-style in 2- or 3-inch increments. Staple together the poster board segments until you have enough to wrap around the laundry basket.

Use the scissors to poke small holes in the poster board. Thread craft wire through the holes and attach the poster board to the laundry basket.

Spray paint the poster board so that it looks like a cupcake liner. Use silver or gold spray paint to make it look like a foil liner, or choose another color, such as pink, blue or white.

Warm up your hot glue gun and place a glue stick inside it. Take your flat batting and hot glue a layer to the top of your cupcake base. Continue gluing layers of batting to look like frosting piped onto the cupcake. After putting a couple layers on, put the costume on to figure out where your arms will be. Leave a section of batting unglued so that your arms can fit through the frosting.

Spray paint the batting in the color of your choice.

Cut decorations, such as sprinkles, out of felt and hot glue them onto the cupcake frosting.
