Parrots consist of more than 350 birds such as Macaws, Lovebirds and Cockatoos just to name a few. All parrots have curved beaks and four toes on each foot. They eat fruit, flowers, nuts and seeds. It has become popular to keep a parrot as a pet because of their intelligence. With this craft you can create your own parrot to keep at home without the cost and the mess. This would be an ideal project for a child learning about parrots.
Cut a 4 inch-by-11-inch piece of construction paper out. Wrap the construction paper around the toilet paper roll. Glue the overlapping ends. Allow this to dry for 15 minutes.
Draw four different sized feathers on various colors of construction paper. Cut each feather out and trace onto the different construction papers. For example, if you cut out a blue feather, trace that feather onto a blue piece of construction paper. You will have a total of eight feathers when you are done.
Glue the feathers onto the toilet paper roll starting at the bottom working your way up. You can mix the sizes up or go from largest to small, whichever you'd prefer.
Cut a 1-inch triangle out of construction paper. Fold the flat-end over, slightly, creating somewhat of a tab at the end. Glue the tab onto the front of the toilet roll. This is the beak to the toilet paper roll parrot.
Glue two wiggly eyes slightly above the beak. Ensure that each wiggly eye is equally apart.
Cut the pipe cleaner into four pieces. One piece should be longer, about 2 inches, the other three pieces need to be about 1-inch long. Wrap the smaller pieces around the larger piece until you have your desired shape for the parrots foot. Repeat this for the other parrot foot.
Glue the tops of the parrots feet to the inside of the toilet roll by placing a small amount of glue to the very top front of the pipe cleaner. Press the foot firmly until it does not move.
Use bright colors of construction paper. Use a hot glue gun or white crafting glue.
