How to Make a Draft-Dodger Snake. This is one way to recycle Dad's old neckties. This clever snake will keep drafts from sneaking under doors or windows.

Sew the narrow end of a necktie closed.

Stitch the back closed, forming a tube with the wide end open.

Fill the snake with polypropylene pellets.

Sew the wide end shut.

Cut a forked tongue from red felt and glue it to the back of the point at the wide end of the tie.

Glue on a pair of eyes.

  • Polypropylene pellets are washable and nontoxic. These are typically used to stuff "beanies." Use a wide tie, not a narrow one or you'll have trouble filling it and it won't be fat enough to really keep out the cold.

  • Don't let small children or pets eat the pellets.
