How to Draw Pokemon. Learn how to draw Pokemon characters. They are drawn in the Japanese anime style, which can be mastered through much practice and a basic understanding of drawing fundamentals. Using a pencil, follow the tips below for drawing Pokemon.
Begin with the face. Starting with a circle, add a rounded triangle shape to the bottom of the circle for the chin and cheekbones. Pokemon faces are very round, but the chin is a bit defined.
Add facial features. Anime characters typically have very large eyes. They are usually oval shaped, taller than they are wide and flat on the bottom where the eyes meet the cheeks. Pokemon noses are always simplified to a single bent line. The mouth, too, is usually small and simplified with a line.
Draw the figure by beginning with basic shapes until the proportions and posture are correct. Figure drawing is complex, and may require much study and practice before mastering. Pokemon figures are pretty realistic, but a bit smaller in proportion to the head.
Add clothing to the figure. When drawing fabric, pay close attention to the fold and weight of the fabric, and the way in which it drapes. Pokemon clothing is usually very simple with minimal amounts of folds and creases.
Draw hair in the anime style. Hair is never drawn one strand at a time. It is drawn in strands, or clumps. For example, Brock's hair is simply triangle shapes around his head varying slightly in shape and height.
Once the proportions are correct and the shape is satisfying, make the lines permanent with pen or black marker. Finish the picture by adding color, either with markers or colored pencils which work the best.
