How to Create a Sunday School Calendar

By Vera Leigh

Churches rely on volunteer members to lead and nurture many ministries and outreaches of the church. Sunday School is one ministry that requires a team of teachers to lead children, young adults and adults in their understanding of Biblical principles. If you are in charge of recruiting volunteer Sunday School teachers, consider making a calendar noting each teacher's date for teaching class. Distribute the calendar early and list important phone numbers to call if a teacher cannot make it to class.

Download a free, printable calendar template. There are many available online, and they can be customized to fit your Sunday School class needs. Because teachers will need to be available for class only on Sundays, you may think that a calendar listing only Sundays is helpful. Instead, it may be confusing for someone to look at a calendar filled with only one day of the week. Go ahead and print a full calendar. The teacher can use the rest of the calendar for personal use.

Write the name and phone number of the teacher as well as the topic for Sunday School--if your church follows a liturgical calendar--with a pen. You also may be able to type this information directly onto your calendar if you have all of it on hand.

Print one month at a time. In the world of ministry, plans change frequently. Working too far ahead may lead to unnecessarily reprinting, retyping and rewriting your Sunday School calendar.
