Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • Vacuum
  • Upholstery dry-cleaning spray
  • Soft-bristled brush

Fabric furniture provides softness, comfort and an endless variety of colors and styles to suit any home. Polyester, cotton and rayon fabrics are blended together to create different textures, such as microfiber which provides a soft, velvety feel similar to suede. Fabric furniture tends to stain easily but regular cleaning and maintenance can keep it looking like new.

Remove any pillows or cushions from the fabric furniture.

Sprinkle an even layer of baking soda over the fabric furniture and allow it to sit for 15 minutes to absorb any odors.

Vacuum the fabric furniture and cushions with a soft brush attachment.

Apply an even layer of upholstery cleaning spray to the fabric furniture and cushions. Allow it to sit for the amount of time specified on the package, usually around five to 10 minutes.

Scrub the fabric furniture and cushions with a soft-bristled brush. Allow the furniture to dry for 15 to 30 minutes.

Vacuum the furniture and cushions once again to remove any dirt brought out from the fabric during the cleaning process.

Replace the pillows and cushions.

  • Always check your furniture's care manual or tags before choosing a cleaning method to avoid damaging the fabric.
