Want a holder for a bottle of wine that will catch anyone's eye while being a conversation starter? Curved wood wine bottle holders are made with curved wood and they play a balancing act with the bottle they hold. Bending wood is often highly involved because of steaming equipment. This project will be much easier for the novice woodworker because it doesn't require steam to bend the wood. Build your own curved wood wine bottle holder out of hardwood to accent the decor of your kitchen or dining room.

Draw an arc on your plywood using a compass with a pencil 10 inches away from its pivot point. The arc should be 20 inches long. Draw another arc that starts and finishes with the first, but is 3 inches away from the arc at the middle. You have a crescent shape. This will be cut out and will take part in your wood bending jig. Repeat this step 3 more times and cut along the pencil marks using your band saw.

Stack the crescent-shaped pieces of plywood so the edges are flush. Fasten five screws through the top piece and into the rest of the pieces. Turn the pieces over and fasten five screws through the opposite side. This is the wood bending jig to for your curved wood wine bottle holder.

Glue the four boards together so they are stacked. The glue should be coming out of the sides. Clamp the boards to the jig right after you apply the glue to the boards. Clamp the 10-inch center to the middle of the jig on the outside and bend the boards by adding clamps as you move towards the ends of the jig. Let the glue dry according to the instructions listed on the container.

Remove the clamps and sand down curved wood so all of the excess glue is gone. Sand first with your heavy grade, then medium grade and then with the fine-grade sandpaper.

Drill a 1 1/4-inch hole through the boards that is 3 inches away from one end, so the center of the bit is 2 inches away from each 2-inch edge of the boards.

Insert your the neck of your wine bottle through the hole so the shoulder of the bottle is against the inside of the curve. The wine bottle holder will find a balance with the wine bottle. Remove the bottle and apply your wood stain to the holder. Let the stain dry according to the instructions listed on the package.
