The Yamaha Virago XV1100 was introduced in 1986 as a result of increasing engine sizes in the Virago line that had been introduced in 1981. Yamaha sold the Virago 1100 as a large cruiser class motorcycle. The Virago continued to be Yamaha's premiere cruiser until 1999, when it was retired and the Star Line began. For its time, the Virago was considered unusual among cruiser bikes for featuring a shaft drive, especially paired with its sizable V-Twin engine.
