How to Print Headshots

Headshots are professional photos used by actors and entertainers. These close photos centered on an actor's face are used for job applications, advertising and more. This makes a headshot a vital career tool, which means that there is every reason to have headshots printed professionally for the best quality. However, there are cases where a headshot may need to be printed at home or very quickly. Using the best quality image file and an excellent photo printer will help to print the most professional looking headshot possible.

Open your photo editing software and then open the image. Check the resolution, making sure the image is at least 300 dpi.

Adjust the image size so the final printed image is 8x10, the accepted standard for head shots. If your image has a different aspect ratio, you may need to crop or adjust the image so that it fills an 8x10 space.

Adjust the print output size for an 8x10 image and select a print preview. This will show your image on the screen exactly as it will be printed.

Fill your printer with archival quality photo paper and archival ink. This will ensure the print is of an acceptable standard of quality and will not fade or discolor with age.

Print your image. When the image is finished printing, lay it in a flat, dry area so the ink sets properly. Do not touch the surface of the photo.

You will need a license to reproduce your photos or retain the copyright yourself. Professional photos may not be reprinted without these rights.

Warning

When carrying and storing a home-printed headshot, do not allow the inked side to touch other papers. The ink may stick and disfigure your headshot.
