Building plastic model cars is a popular hobby, with clubs and shows established across the nation, along with hundreds of websites and magazines. Builders and enthusiasts gather to show off their latest designs, attend plastic model car workshops and seminars and purchase various models, tools and supplies from merchants. Syracuse Mini Nationals Model Car Show

Held during the annual Syracuse Nationals Car Show, the Syracuse Mini Nationals Model Car Show is three days of model car building and a final contest in which model cars compete for best in class and in show, with cash prizes. The show includes model vendors, club displays and hundreds of plastic model cars alongside thousands of real ones. This is one of the largest shows on the east coast, with more than 80,000 attendees, and takes place in mid-July.

ModelFest

Held at the end of February, ModelFest not only brings together plastic car model enthusiasts and vendors, but also modelers of any sort of vehicle, such as trains, rockets and boats. Admission to this full-day event is $6 per person. Vendors must reserve their tables beforehand, and anyone wishing to enter the Fairest Model Contest must pay the entry fee of $4 for the first model, and $2 for each subsequent entry.

Annual Model Car Exhibition

Hosted by the Classic Plastic Model Club, the Annual Model Car Exhibition has yearly themes for its model car show, such as classic or pop styles. An exhibition hall is available to display favorite plastic car models, along with food and drink vendors. All attendees 17 and younger get in free, while adults pay $5. The car model contest has 31 entry classes, including youth, large and small-scale models, theme and custom. Entry into the contest is $3 per model. This event is during the third week of September.

The Super September Showdown

The Super September Showdown is a model contest and vendor show, including plastic model cars. Admission is $5, and there are 21 contest classes which plastic model cars can be entered into. Enthusiasts can peruse model car kits and purchase individual parts, decals and more. This show, taking place in the second week of September, is put together by Fantastic Plastics and the Central Pennsylvania Model Car Club.
