How to Make a Celtic Love Knot

Celtic love knots symbolize the bond between two people and the longevity of their lives together. Celtic wedding rings traditionally display the love knot, which utilizes continuous lines to represent eternity, unity and fidelity. Love knots are often attached to decorative items and giftware, which can negate the true meaning of the knot, but handmade Celtic love knots are not only easy to make, but can show a loved one how much you care.

Step 1

Make a loose loop with the cord.

Step 2

Feed the top side through the center. The cord will look like a very loose single knot.

Step 3

Feed the same side through the center again, but this time feed it under the left side of the cord. This will be like make a simple weave.

Step 4

Feed the right side end through the center again, weaving under, over and under to form a third weave.

Step 5

Work the knot flatly with your fingers until it resembles a heart with the ends of the cord parallel to either side.

Step 6

Tighten the knot by flattening it with your fingers until it is very taut.
