How to Make a Klingon Costume

Klingons were one of the most common the alien races in the hit science fiction series Star Trek, best recognized for the series of oddly-shaped ridges along their foreheads. Due to the popularity of this series and the new series of Star Trek films that are being produced, the Klingon costume has become a more popular outfit to wear on Halloween and different costume parties. Due to the face make-up that is needed on the forehead, this is a surprisingly difficult costume to pull off effectively.

Things You'll Need:

  • Bald Cap
  • Skin-Colored Make-Up
  • Double Stick Tape
  • Black Jacket
  • Black Pants
  • Knee-High Black Boots
  • Weapons Belt
  • Black Wig
  • Black Longsleeve Shirt
  • Masking Tape

Gather all the different parts of your costume together, ranging from wardrobe to make-up. You will want to have everything gathered together so that you can spend as much time as possible preparing your face make-up and Klingon forehead to look realistic. Purchase a large amount of this make-up that naturally matches your skin tone.

Put on your bald cap over your hair and make sure it entirely covers your forehead. Now tear strips of duct tape that are about two to three inches each and will fit in the middle of the forehead of the bald cap. Pinch the middle of each piece of tape so that they form a natural ridge. Then place this tape in the middle of your forehead so that the ridges point up towards the top of your head. Place three to five of these tape strips with a tall ridge in the middle of them in the middle of the bald cap's forehead.

Cover these ridges pieces of tape and the bald cap with enough make-up so that they naturally blend into the skin on your face and it looks like you have ridges on your forehead. Attach one or two small pieces of double stick tape inside your black wig and affix it to the top of your head, so that the tape and make-up ridge line on your forehead runs right up to the edge of the wig itself.

Put on the rest of your black Klingon outfit. The equipment or weapons belt will be a nice, final touch. Authentic types of these can be purchased at costume stores or online, from Star Trek fan websites.

Tip

Put on the long sleeve black shirt before you start putting on your bald cap and makeup. You will not be able to easily put on or take off any clothes over your head while wearing this make-up and wig.

Warnings:

  • Make sure the make-up you are using is water resistant so it will not run if you sweat while wearing the costume.
