How to Build a Wheel of Fortune Wheel

About Wheel of Fortune

"Wheel of Fortune" is a beloved game show that has been on the air every weeknight for decades. Make your own wheel at home for a class project or a board game. A simple sheet of poster board will make up the base for your wheel. How you decorate it and what you use it for are entirely up to you.

Making your Wheel of Fortune Wheel

Trace a circle on a piece of poster board. The size of your circle depends on how large you want your wheel of fortune to be. If you are not comfortable drawing a circle freehand, consider tracing a large round serving plate or a circular table. Cut out your circle with scissors.

Paint your wheel in accordance with the design of the original wheel of fortune. Draw your lines out with pencil first before painting. Use a ruler or other straight edge to divide your wheel into pie pieces.

Fill each pie piece of your wheel with your desired information. You can paint in dollar amounts, point values or any other fun information depending on your intended use of your wheel of fortune.

Insert a brass brad into the center of your poster board wheel. This will be what it allows it so spin. Hot glue the brad to a spool of thread placed underneath the poster board wheel. Be sure to keep the brad loosely in place through the poster board, so the wheel can still spin easily.

Draw and paint an arrow on a separate piece of poster board. Cut out your arrow and hot glue it to the top of the brad on the topside of the poster board wheel. Now when you spin the poster board wheel, the arrow will designate where the wheel lands.
